Nutritional Policies

We feel that it is important to work with parents/guardians to ensure good nutritional development of the children.

The development of good eating habits is critical for young children as these eating habits will form a foundation for healthy eating in adulthood. Bridlewood Children’s Centre will provide Breakfast / Lunch and Snacks in the afternoon.

Bridlewood Children’s Centre reviews menus on a weekly basis to ensure proper nutrition.

Please Note the following Serving Schedule:

Breakfast Served between: 6:45 – 9:00
Lunch Served between: 10:45 – 11:00

For Babies to Toddlers: 11:15 / 11:30 – 3 yrs. to ECS
Snack: 2:00 & 4:00 for Babies to Toddlers
For 3yrs & ECS: 3:00

Allergies / Food Sensitives: We realize that some children need special food products – these foods the parents may be asked to supply.

All Allergies & Food sensitives are recognized strictly followed and consideration for all meals and snacks.

We are a NUT FREE CENTRE.

CHILDREN must be sitting down at all times when eating or drinking. Table manners will be practiced and encouraged. All precautions are taken to ensure and prevent a child from choking.

Meal times will be a calm and pleasant experience, focusing on the social interaction between children and peers and the staff. Children will be encouraged to be involved in ongoing conversations and to undertake discussions, of things that interest them. Staff will join children during meal and snack times.

Weather permitting we will enjoy PICNICS!

Milk is served with Breakfast and Lunch. Water is accessible to children at all times.
** Carbonated drinks are not permitted. I.e.: POP

Food Allergies and Sensitivities:

All staff will be made aware of any and all allergies / or / sensitivities that a child may have. An allergy list is kept in each room so all staff is aware of any and all allergies /sensitivities throughout the Centre. This list is updated as needed. Any diet modified by a Specialist for a child will be made available to staff by the parents, accompanied by a letter from the specialist outlining the reasons for modifications. Parents are requested to inform staff of any NEW food allergies as they occur for their child. Low fat diets ARE NOT suitable for young children. Changes made for Cultural / Religious reasons will be posted on the allergy list. (This list is kept confidential.) Parents must give the Program notice in writing of new allergies and diet changes.

Foods from Home:

The Program offers Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks, including milk. We serve 2% milk, so if a child requires other milk products – soy/ rice, Parents will need to supply. Other food products may be brought from home for your child. I.e. Yogurt/ fruit/ etc.

If staff are concerned about a child’s diet, they will discuss director / asst. director and with the parent/guardian.

A weekly menu is posted in the lobby on the parent information board. Any concerns a parent /guardian may have can be addressed with the Director / Asst. Director.

  • Bridlewood Children Centre does not serve sugared cereals.
  • Bridlewood Children Centre follows the Canada Food Guide.
  • Bridlewood Children Centre will not be held responsible for foods brought from home.
